Major objectives To establish the antioxidant potential of Prosopis cineraria leaves and conformation newlineusing in vitro models To assess the apoptosis influencing activity of leaves in lower organism newlineSaccharomyces cerevisiae in noncancerous cells To analyze the anticancer activity of the leaves using breast cancer cell lines To determine the phytochemical constituents present in the leaves of Prosopis cineraria The present study thus revealed that the methanolic extract of Prosopis cineraria newlineleaves are potential scavengers of free radicals The antioxidant influencing activity of the newlineextract and its ability to relieve oxidative stress in the liver slices was also observed The leaf newlineextract by itself did not cause cytotoxicity in the yeast cells and were also able to protect the newlineyeast cells from oxidant induced damage Further the anticancer activity of the extract as newlineevidenced by cytotoxicity studies staining techniques immunocytochemical localization of newlineapoptotic proteins and cell cycle analysis showed that the extract mediated cell death through newlineapoptosis in breast cancer cells The phytochemical analysis revealed that the leaves can newlineserve as a rich source of the phytochemicals which may be responsible for these antioxidant newlineand anticancer activities newlineen_US
