Abstract: An attempt has been made to identify the change in rural land use, its newlinesocio-economic and environmental implications. Kendrapara district faces a lot of newlineproblems because of its geographical location, increasing population pressure, the newlinechange in land use pattern, natural calamities, modernization of agriculture, water newlinelogging, etc. The study has many objectives such as to analyse the changing land newlineuse scenario in Kendrapara district both spatially and temporally, to find out the newlinecorrelation between population pressure and land use change, to analyse the newlineeconomic and environmental impact of land use change of Kendrapara district, to newlinepropose mitigation measures on the basis of issues identified through land use newlineanalysis. Different methodologies are used for the study, such as methodology for newlineland use/ land cover mapping and its change detection analysis by using both newlineRemote Sensing data and the data collected from the published sources, newlinemethodology for socio-economic condition analysis. To prepare the land use newlinechange analysis of the study area, five images from the LANDSAT ETM+ satellite newlineare obtained for five time periods, i.e. 1978, 1988, 1998, 2008 and 2018 and newlineaccordingly the classification is done. The degree of change detection was done by newlinecalculating the Relative Deviation of each land use categories. Besides Satellite newlineimagery the data were also collected from the secondary sources i.e. Department newlineof Statistical Bureau, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The land utilization data of each years newlinefrom 2001 to 2011 were collected and analysis was done to know the annual land newlineuse change of Kendrapara district. newline
