Abstract: | Aim newlineTo compare the chewing efficiency in full mouth rehabilitation patients, both newlinesubjectively and objectively, when occlusal calibration was done with newlinearticulating paper and t-scan. newlineMaterials and Methods newlineThis study was conducted on 26 patients who were undergoing full mouth newlinerehabilitation. The occlusal analysis was done during the bisque trial after which newlineappropriate corrections were done and cemented. The subject was recalled 1 newlinemonth after cementation and was then given 9 grams of peanuts (3 grams - 3 newlinetimes). The subject was then asked to perform 40 masticatory strokes. The newlinechewed food was collected in a disposable cup. The subject was also given newlinewater to rinse their mouth twice and then rinse obtained was also added to the newlinesame disposable cup. After stirring the chewed food with a glass rod, it was newlinepassed through a 10 mesh sieve. This test helps to determine the quantitative newlineestimation of the chewed food. The filtrate was then collected in tubes and newlinecentrifuged at 3000rpm for 5 minutes. The filtrate split into a solid pellet and a newlineliquid supernatant. The supernatant was then discarded and the pellet was newlinemeasured on a digital scale. Masticatory performance in this study was newlinequantitated in the method suggested by Yurkstas and Manly (Yurkstas and newlineManly, 1950). Performance was evaluated for any particle size (sieve size) by newlinedividing the weight of test food passing through a sieve by the total weight of newlinetest food recovered. This fraction was then expressed as a percent. The first wet newlineweight was calculated. The test specimens were placed in a hot air oven at 40and#8451; newlinefor 8 hours and again the dry weights were measured. newlineResults newlineThere is no significant difference between the chewing efficiency in full mouth newlinerehabilitated patients following occlusal calibration with T-scan and articulating newlinepaper. However, subjectively, there was a significant difference in the perception newlineof esthetics, chewing efficiency of medium and hard food from the patient s newlineperspective following occlusal calibration with T-scan and articulating paper. newline |
