dc.description.abstract | Considering the importance and necessity of managing a chronic disease like Diabetes, the newlinepresent study was designed in order to study the effect of Neurobiofeedback therapy on newlineCognitive impairment and glycemic control of patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. newlineA between and within group experimental design was used in which a sample of 60 old aged newlinepatients previously diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (including both males and females) were newlineselected by stratified process from the hospitals and was further divided into experimental (n= newline30) and control group (n= 30). For comparing the effect of diabetes mellitus on cognitive newlinefunction, also randomly selected 30 more participants from normal population as normal control newlinegroup with similar age group range as diabetic patients. The experimental group was subjected to newlinea Neurofeedback intervention training. Two variables included cognitive function (focus newlineattention, executive function and working memory) and glycemic control (HbA1c) with other newlinesupporting variables. Finally, the collected data was analyzed on SPSS version 21.0 using newlinestatistical tests. Finding indicated that all the three domain of cognitive function were found newlinecompromised compare to their normal counterparts with the statistically significant difference. newlineResult also suggested the positive impact of Neurobiofeedback intervention training on the newlinemeasured cognitive skills with significant difference in the outcome of pre and post intervention newlineassessments with the decreased level of glycemic control. However, the correlation between the newlineglycemic control and cognitive function factors were not found to be significant with respect to newlinecognitive skill among the experimental group. On the basis of the results obtained and their newlineinterpretation, it can be safely concluded that type 2 diabetes accelerates the cognitive decline newlinebut with the proper and individual designed neurofeedback intervention training schedule can newlineprove to be effective tool in improving cognitive functions of diabetic patients. newline | |
