A Stylistic Analysis of African American Vernacular English in the Selected Works of Twentieth Century American Authors

Abstract

Stylistics (a sub-discipline which started in the second half of the twentieth newlinecentury1) and#8213;has been defined as the analysis of the language of literary texts, usually newlinetaking its theoretical model from linguistics, in order to undertake analysisand#8214; (Mills, newline2005, p. 2).It is a discipline that studies different styles and which in turn, is defined newlineas the way in which something is written, spoken or performed (Leech, 1973). Leech newlinefurther maintains that stylistics maybe regarded simply as a variety of discourse newlineanalysis dealing with literary discourseand#8214; (p. 151).
