Abstract: There are diverse hypotheses concerning the possible association in the literature newlinebetween tobacco habits and the colonization of oral candida. newlineThe gamut of fungal infections has experienced a radical change; the organisms, newlinewhich was minimally invasive or had a less pathogenic character have become a more newlinepathogenic and the organisms which was once susceptible now has become resistant to newlinethe antifungals. newlineThe subjective perception based on Oral Health Related Quality of Life newline(OHRQOL) has broadened the knowledge on dental research, education and the newlineguidelines to clinical practice. newlineThe subjective viewpoint on quality of life differs from culture to culture and newlinestudies at the conceptual level is therefore necessary especially in countries like India newlinewhere the OHRQOL has not been studied much. newlineTherefore, time and again baseline data is required for planning future research newlineand preventive programs. This study aims at assessing the tobacco users, to estimate their newlineoral candidal carriage, the colony forming units, its antifungal resistance and also it aims newlineat investigating the subjective component on OHRQOL among them. newlineAim of the Study: To estimate the oral candidal carriage, its antifungal resistance and to newlineassess the oral health related quality of life in tobacco users. newlineMethods: Tobacco users (n=200) and healthy controls (n=200) were recruited for the newlinestudy. Unstimulated saliva samples were collected for estimating candidal carriage and to newlinetest in vitro antifungal susceptibility. OHIP questionnaire was used to record oral health newlinerelated quality of life. newlineResults: Candidal carriage in smokers was 51.5% and in controls it was 21.5%. newlineAntifungal resistance was observed for triazoles and imidazoles and increased resistance newlinewas noted in tobacco users compared to controls. The oral health related quality of life newlinewas found to be low in tobacco users than the non-users. newlineConclusions: Tobacco cessation and intervention can reduce the risk of oral disorders newlineand improve the quality of life of the individuals
