Counter insurgency in the state of Manipur a critical analysis post AFSPA period

Abstract

The present research deals with the genesis of insurgency and also the various factors responsible for the rise of Insurgency in Manipur. The research explores the counterinsurgency measures in the Naga Hills Districts of Manipur, which can be located within the three parameters; structural changes, use of dialogue and negotiations and the proportionate use of force. The work is based on the secondary literature written on the issue and based on the eye witness account of the people interacted with during my data collection. The research critically evaluates the counterinsurgency measures in Manipur and points out the shortcomings, lacuna, and loopholes after completely scrutinizing the counterinsurgency measures of the Indian Government and also of its failure in dealing with the menace of insurgency in Manipur is discussed which includes the failure to understand the nature of the conflict and to win the hearts and mind of the people. newline
