Abstract: The present study focuses on the status of solid waste management followed by of Kolkata newlineMunicipal Corporation. Worldwide explosion of population leads to a huge amount of solid waste newlinegeneration. Municipal bodies around the world are literally struggling to combat with such massive newlineoutcome of regular waste. Countries experiencing over population are its worst sufferers. It appears newlineas a serious environmental threat to the urban environments of the densely populated nations. newlineWastes are broadly classified into two categories such as biodegradables and non-biodegradables. newlineWastes have been changing their nature with time since last couple of decades. It s become more newlinecomplex as waste contains more non-biodegradables and hazardous waste these days. At a time newlinewaste is able to pollute air, water and soil. Households are the largest producers of waste. There newlineare several other sources in daily waste generation such as markets, industries, construction and newlinedemolition sectors, commercial sectors, hospitals, pathological labs and many more. newlineSocioeconomic factors of people plays a great role in determining the composition of waste newlinecategories. Income, education, occupation, social status have direct association with the amount newlineand composition of waste. newline
