Abstract: | Technological advancement in medical science has greatly increased the life cycle of human newlinebeings. A number of diseases increased in large numbers on the contrary, which necessitated the newlineproduction of a wide array of pharmaceuticals to combat. Research in the field of medical newlinescience for curing different diseases gave rise to the production of a range of pharmaceutical newlineproducts. Consequently, the number of pharmaceutical industries has grown up significantly in newlinethe last few decades. Every production unit generates waste in the form of solid, liquid and gas, newlineof which, liquid waste is most common and often found toxic in nature. Thus, characterization of newlinereleased pharmaceuticals and manufacturing industry is not only difficult due to the variety and newlineamount of raw material used, manufacturing processes involved, diversity of products, and plant newlinesizes but also due to quantity and quality of wastewater. In order to meet the demand for newlinedifferent industrial activities, treatment technologies have gained immense popularity for recycle, newlinereuse and make-up water. newlineDifferent treatment methods like, physicochemical treatment which includes screening, newlinechlorination, coagulation/flocculation, sedimentation, adsorption, reverse osmosis, activated newlinesludge process, membrane separation, biological treatments (both aerobic and anaerobic), newlineozonation and ozone-hydrogen peroxide treatment are available in the literature. In the last newlinedecade, one of the promising technologies for treatment of drinking water and wastewater that newlinehas gained popularity is the ozonation process. As the use of ozone is simple, it reacts with all newlinetypes of complex compounds and intermediates and breaks down into simpler one. Due to strong newlineoxidation capability, ozone molecules rupture the target molecules and produce byproducts that newlineare easily biodegradable. newlineAbstract newline______________________________________________________________________________ newline newlinePresent study deals with the ozone treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater. |
