Abstract: | Corrosion is the destruction or deterioration of metal by electrochemical mechanism newlineor direct chemical attack with surrounding environment. Formation of reddish brown newlinedeposition oniron/steel, tarnishing copper and silver, white product formation on zinc newlineare some examples of corrosion. Deterioration by physical means is called erosion, newlinegalling or wear. Swelling of plastics, decay of wood, erosion of granite or leaching newlineaway of Portland cement will not come under the definition of corrosion. Rusting newlinerefers particularly to the corrosion of iron and iron base alloys. Non-ferrous metals newlineundergo corrosion but there will be no formation of rust. newline newline |
