Abstract: | Present study entitled An Analysis of Working Patterns, Job Performance and Leadership Styles of Civil Servants in Haryana: A gender based study was conducted on civil servants posted in the state of Haryana. The study was comparative in nature. There were 175 respondents including 97 males and 78 females. The profile of civil servants, nature of work, workplace issues, motivational factors, relations with subordinates, colleagues and super-ordinates and their leadership styles were studied using a structured questionnaire and different scales. The usage of Occupational Sex Segregation theory was found useful in the present study as it explains the concentration of different sexes in different occupations. It was found that female respondents were younger as compared to the male respondents and it was also found that male respondents occupied the top positions, whereas majority of female respondents were concentrated in lower level positions. The work schedule of male respondents and female respondents was also found to be different. Male respondents were found to be working for long hours usually more than 8 hours as compared to female respondents. Male respondents had tough postings whereas female respondents mostly had soft postings. With regard to leadership styles it was found that female respondents were more autocratic as compare their male counterparts. newline |
