Abstract: | The thesis deals with the synthesis of hydrogen bond tethered supramolecular architectures of [Co(bpy)2CO3](ONP).3H2O, [Co(bpy)2CO3](PNP).4H2O, [Co(bpy)2CO3](C7H4NO3S).3H2O and [Co(bpy)2CO3]IO4 (where bpy=2,2 -bipyridine, ONP=Orthonitrophenolate, PNP=Paranitrophenolate, C7H4NO3S=Saccharinate, IO4=Periodate). The physicochemical characterization by elemental analysis and spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, UV and 1H NMR have been discussed and studied in detail. The structures have further been recognized and confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The single crystal studies displayed fascinating packing arrangements. The crystal structures are supported by the non-covalent interactions like hydrogen bonding and and#960;-and#960; stacking interactions. Besides detailed physicochemical studies, thermogravimetric analysis also supported the coordination structure. The antibacterial activities against gram-negative and gram positive bacteria was also assessed. The cytotoxic evaluation of newly synthesized complexes was also carried out against PANC-1 (pancreatic cell line) and HeLa cell lines (Human cervical cancer cell line) by colorimetric MTT assay. The biological results clearly indicated that the complexes acted as potent antibacterial and anti-cancer drug aspirants. newline |
