Abstract: The work presented here is a research in domain of demand side management, newlinefor power systems. Power systems around the globe are struggling with newlinemanagement of daily peak loads. The power systems can be seen to operate in a newlinestressed season or a relaxed season. The stressed season indicate marginal availability newlineof power during peak hours to cater to energy demands and hence the system newlinebecomes prone to enter into under-supply, whereas the relaxed season indicate availability newlineof sufficient power generation capacity at disposal during peak hours to cater newlineto energy demands. The peak load on a power system is potential threat to economic newlinegeneration of electricity, during relaxed seasons, owing to sub-optimal loading newlineof peak load or semi peak load plants. Whereas during stressed seasons, peak loads newlinemay throw an otherwise healthy system into instability leading to partial or complete newlinecollapse, if not sorted out in time. This work proposes a demand side load newlinemanagement(DSLM) solution for peak management. This DSLM is supposed to be newlineimplemented inside the consumer premises. The solution uses an ICT framework, newlineenabler for implementation of DSLM for the two seasons. The ICT framework networks newlinea central entity the power hub with all switchgears, through leaf a strap-on newlineentity attached on switchgear working as switchgear controller cum user interface. newlineThe power hub is a database manager cum controller, it can control the operation newlineof switchgears and communicate to the user through leafs. The power hub also newlinecommunicates with the grid infrastructure through consumer premises smart meter, newlineand receives forecast for the day like state of the grid, time of grid peak hours, etc.. newlineOperation of the DSLM during stressed season, aims to bring down reactive power newlinedrawn by the consumer during grid peak hours, and helping utility, to manage newlinevoltage stability. This is done by appropriately shifting plug-in time of equipment in consumer premises.
