Diabetes is the ninth leading cause of death among women globally causing 2 point 1 million deaths per year The effects of GDM leads to increase in the resistance of insulin as the pregnancy proceeds Therefore a pregnancy complicated with GDM causes increased blood glucose levels due to the underlying physiological resistance of insulin which predisposes for maternal pregnancy induced hypertension macrosomia and obstructed labour due to shoulder dystocia and foetal macrosomia birth injuries hypoglycaemia respiratory distress complications associated with the GDM. This study Effect of probiotics supplementation on glycaemic control and pregnancy outcomes among women with gestational diabetes mellitus in a selected tertiary care centre of Thiruvallur District was conducted to investigate if the probiotics had beneficial effects on maternal glucose metabolism and maternal and neonatal health as a result of GDM The primary objective of the study was to determine the effects of supplementation of probiotics on glycaemic control such as fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels. The secondary objectives of the study were to determine the effects of the supplementation of probiotics on maternal outcomes in terms of maternal weight gain co-morbidities during pregnancy gestational age of delivery and mode of delivery and duration of labour and neonatal outcomes in terms of birth weight shoulder dystocia APGAR at 5 minutes and admission into NICU The conceptual framework adapted for the study for was The Helping Art of Clinical Nursing Theory given by Ernestine Wiedenbach According to this theory, the antenatal women were met and guided to fulfil their needs newlineThe methodology adopted for this study was a randomized controlled trial under a quantitative research approach This research design was used to evaluate the effects of the comprehensive novel therapy in the control of blood glucose levels All the pregnant women who were diagnosed with GDM and attended antenatal OPD to receive the focused antenatal car
