Abstract: Laparotomy is a major surgery, always associated with a huge newlineamount of blood loss than other types of abdominal surgeries. The patients newlinewho underwent midline laparotomy may have a large surgical incision of newlineabout 15-20 cm in the center part of the abdominal wall, which is the largest newlinearea of the body that protects many internal organs. Post-operatively, the newlinepatient is on the abdominal drain at the Surgical site, a nasogastric tube newlineinserted and on urinary drainage. Almost one in five laparotomy patients newlinereported functional impairment, experienced severe pain at the incisional site. newlineThe presence of drains and indwelling catheters make the patient dependent newlineon others for daily activity. In India, the estimated surgeries needed in Indian newlinepopulation is 3646 surgeries per year. In that 26% of total surgery would be of newlinegeneral surgery on gastrointestinal system (Bhandarkar Prashant, 2020). It newlineis estimated that 18.8% of surgeries were between 30 39 years, 33.3% within newline30 49 years and 28% will be in the age group of 50 74 years. The national newlineestimates of surgery valued 10% of total surgeries. Thus, there is a great newlineneed to provide non-pharmacological management such as the application of newlineabdominal binder and initiation of early ambulation among midline laparotomy newlinepatients. In India, only a few studies were conducted to determine the newlineeffectiveness of early ambulation on pain level, analgesic usage, daily activity, newlinelength of hospital stay and bio-physiological parameters among midline newlinelaparotomy patients. Hence, there is a need to study the effectiveness of newlinescheduled early ambulation on promoting the quality of selected postoperative newlinerecovery among abdominal surgery patients. newline
