dc.description.abstract | In the recent times, a lot of emphasis has been laid on the monitoring and retrofitting of builtstructures newlineand the trend seems to be expanding. Concrete as well as masonry buildings are known newlineto function as a structural system only for a limited period of time. When a structure fails in its newlineprimary function of receiving and transmitting loads, consequences might be many. The structure newlinemay altogether collapse and cause severe damage to both life and property. newlineIn the work mentioned in this thesis, a historical monument, Taj-ul-Masajid, has been studied newlineusing Non-Destructive Testing Techniques so as to quantify its strength and other physical and newlinemicrostructural properties so as to establish the level of damage in the structure. Initially, the newlinestructure is evaluated visually. The portions of the structure found to be in a dilapidated condition newlineare evaluated physically and finally, X-Ray Diffraction Test has been used to study the newlinemicrostructural details of the material used in the structure. Test results have been combined to get newlinean overall picture of the damage level in the structure. Finally, methods for retrofitting of the newlinestructure have been suggested. newline | |
