Abstract: | As an intellectual property, trade secrets have the ability to convert intangible value into economic growth. Unfortunately, trade secrets have been pushed out of the domain of intellectual property rights (IPR) law due to their unfavorable treatment. This thesis attempts to discuss the meaning, definition and importance of trade secrets as compared to other form of Intellectual Property. Trade secrets have their own unique advantages. Trade secrets are effective immediately, available for unlimited duration subject to their protection, covers broad subject matters, and do not involve strict application procedures. Other than these advantages, every trade secret has its own specific advantages. newlineIn India, trade secrets are still a deserted field as there is no policy framework for the protection of trade secrets. Such scenario is affecting development and progress of intellectual property system in India.
