Abstract: Methyl jasmonate (MJ), a volatile methyl ester of jasmonic acid with immense newlineplant growth regulatory and defense capabilities, is well recognized for its broadspectrum newlineantineoplastic actions. The primary mechanism of the antineoplastic action of newlineMJ is reported to be associated with its ability to cause a massive depolarization of newlinemitochondrial membrane potential accompanied by the release of cytochrome c, newlinefollowing the binding of MJ to HK 2 and its consequent detachment from the newlinemitochondrial membrane. MJ-dependent alteration of critical bioenergetic milestones newlinein the neoplastic cells results in induction of cell death by apoptosis and necrosis modes newlinemainly owing to depleted ATP synthesis. However, several aspects of the mechanism newlineof the antineoplastic action of MJ still remain elusive. newline
