Abstract: Internship is known for giving student teachers an opportunity to apply their newlineknowledge in real world environment. At the same time, they will also develop skills which newlinewill help them perform better at their professional field. It greatly increases the chance that a newlinestudent will gain full time employment after graduation. Internship is a bridge between newlinestudent career and professional career. A part of internship is based on emotional relationship newlinebetween student teacher, co-operative teachers, and school authority and school environment. newlineIt has been often observed that student teachers after finishing the internship get more newlinemotivated for teaching profession. During internship, student teachers are provided with newlineexperience that will make them stronger. In addition to this, their work ethic will increase and newlinethey will be confident in their abilities. Internship will also allow student teachers to learn newlineabout time management and discipline. So, internship programme is a very important newlinepractical phase in student teacher s preparation for regular teaching at any level of school newlineeducation. newlineWhile analyzing the review of sixty studies related to internship, it is found that newlinetwelve studies are related to impact of internship, thirteen studies are related to quality of newlineinternship, seven studies are related to development of necessary skills and attitude during newlineinternship, thirteen studies are related to assessment of internship, eight studies are related to newlineperception about internship and seven studies are related to execution of internship. Only one newlineof the studies used documentary analysis. Most of the studies (47) used survey method. There newlineis only one experimental study and one used phenomenological method. 36 of the studies are newlinequantitative in nature i.e., they used standardized tools and analysed quantitatively using newlinedescriptive and inferential statistics. However, sizeable proportions of studies (28) are newlinequalitative in nature used tools like, open-ended questionnaire, interview and FGD and newlineanalysed using content analysis technique. Very few studies also used mixed method design newlinewhere both qualitative and quantitative techniques were used for data collection and analysis. newlineThere are only seven case studies. Most of the studies are fragmental in nature in the sense, newlinenot studied in a holistic way. However, I did not come across any in-depth holistic study newline2 newlineabout internship of a particular institution that is practicing in an innovative way. This would newlinehave been given insights to understand the phenomena of internship in a better way. newlineThe Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar (RIE) is a constituent body of newlineNCERT. It is an apex resource organization to bring a qualitative improvement in school newlineeducation. It undertakes various activities like conducting research, developing curriculum, newlinepreparing textbooks and other teaching materials, providing training to the teachers and newlineteacher educators. Development of innovative programme of pre-service teacher education is newlineone of the major concerns of the Regional Institute of Education. The innovative pre-service newlineteacher education courses being run by Regional Institute of Education include four year newlineintegrated teacher education course in science education (B.Sc. B.Ed.) and two year B.Ed. newline(Secondary). Its two-year B.Ed. Programme is a model pre-service teacher education newlineprogramme throughout the eastern region. Its internship programme is very systematic and newlinerigorous. newlineHence, the investigator is keen to undertake a case study about the internship newlineactivities of Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar. newlineStatement of the Problem newlineInternship is an indispensable part of any pre-service teacher education programme. It newlinegives practical real-life exposure for professional preparation of prospective teachers. It newlineprovides an opportunity to develop true understanding of the teaching profession. Two-Year newlineB.Ed. Programme of Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar is a model pre-service newlineteacher education programme throughout the eastern region. Its internship programme is very newlinesystematic and rigorous. The investigator is keen to study about the various processes newlineinvolved during internship of a particular teacher education institution i.e., Regional Institute newlineof Education, Bhubaneswar. The result of the study may not be generalized. However, the newlinestudy will give an insight about the various process of internship in depth. newline
