Abstract: The disease burden attributable to alcohol consumption is significant newlineand cause for public health problems and also reason for social and economic newlinefactors. Reduction of alcohol attributable burden is becoming a priority area newlinefor international public health experts. Alcohol related issues can also be newlinereduced through the implementation of proven strategies. Treatments for newlinealcoholism should help individuals to stay away from alcohol and guide them newlineto maintain an alcohol free lifestyle. Even after detox, when physical newlinedependence is cured, psychological and social factors are often powerful newlinestimuli which put addicts at high risk for relapse in the absence of a good newlineprogramme. An intervention after the treatment can consist of self help group, newlineaftercare, and therapy paired with the motivation to practice and continue the newlinemethods taught. Other approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, newlinefamily therapy, Psychotherapy may also result in attaining desired goals. The newlineaim of the therapy treating mental and emotional health as well as chemical newlinedependence is to bring an addict back to a productive and normal person newlinefunctioning in the family and in society. Motivation to change is an important variable in treatment outcome of an alcoholic patient newlineCommunication is one of the ways through which families are able to newlineovercome the challenges. It is through communication that the members of a newlinefamily are able to express their feelings, needs and want for each other. newlineHence good communication within the family facilitates good understanding newlineamong the members and facilitates the solution for the problems that the newlinemembers may be facing as individuals and as a whole unit. Effective and newlineopen communication among the alcoholic patients and their spouses will newlinecreate pleasant atmosphere in the family. That can improve their bonding, newlinethereby reduce stress and improve their quality of life. The pleasant family newlineatmosphere created through effective communication may help the person newlinewith alcohol dependence syndrome to abstain from alcoholism
