Abstract: | Using coping strategies can be considered as the mode to get along in newlinethe existing world by maintaining, controlling and balancing the stress. newlineAccording to Frydenberg and Lewis, 2012), individuals use both types of newlinecoping skills, i.e. productive coping skills referring to problem solving, working newlinehard, positive thinking and physical recreation which reduces the stress of newlinesome challenging circumstances and non-productive coping skills includes newlineself- distraction, denial, substance use, self-blame and avoidance which newlineexhibit cognitive deficits, illness, increased level of depression and anxiety, newlinelower self-esteem and bad health effects. Adolescent living in institutionalised homes has psychological problems newlinelike adjustmental and behavioural problems.Hence a suitable intervention newlinelikeautogenic relaxation can be taught to deal with stress. Itheals naturally as newlineit reduces intensity of body s stress response and replace with calmer state. newlineHence it is also known as and#8215;western meditation. It involves simple relaxation and body awareness exercise. The technique helps to manage stress related newlinesymptoms like sleep problems, fatigue, mild depression and chronic newlinepain.Deep relaxation reverses stress response (British Autogenic Society, newline2013). Helps to switch from stress to relaxation. It Increases confidence and newlineself-esteem.Increases concentration and focus, eliminates anxiety and newlineimproves sleep quality. Is a tool for self-empowerment and feeling more in newlinecontrol and emotional balance and thereby promotes personal growth. newlineStudies suggest that autogenic relaxation provides an acceptable approach newlineto stress reduction (Seung-Joo Lim, 2014) newlineHence autogenic relaxation was considered as suitable relaxation newlinetechnique for adolescent to reduce stress with simple steps to practice. So an newlineeffort is initiated to assess the effectiveness of autogenic relaxation on stress newlineand biophysiological parameters among adolescent. newline |
