Abstract: | The global studies on employee engagement are indicating a consistent decline in employee s engagement levels not only in India but across most of the countries in the world. The current situation presents 52 to 72 per cent employees falling in the category of not engaged when averaged region wise. Hence, considering the ever- declining engagement levels it is important to have in-depth knowledge of factors having impact on engagement and its implications. In light of the above situation the researcher has chosen the topic to fill the gaps and provide the insights for academic and managerial implications with special focus on Indian service sector. newlineThe thesis is organized into eight chapters. In the first chapter an introduction to the topic of research is provided with a brief detail of the antecedents and consequences of employee engagement. The introduction also comprises of dimensions of engagement with various models given by researchers in the area of employee engagement. Finally, a brief description of India s service sector including banking, telecommunications, information technology and education sector are discussed. Chapter 2 offers the review of literature with research articles included from 1990 - 2021.The review articles, empirical papers, meta-analytic studies, consultancy reports, dissertations and even web articles were included in the study for review purpose. The review of literature supported the researcher to identify the gaps in the literature, stating the research objectives and formulating the hypothesis for the study. Next, Chapter 3 deliberates on research methodology adopted to empirically achieve the objectives of the present study. This chapter presented the research design, population and sample, and sample size determination methods were discussed. Further, survey instrument development, including the pretest and pilot testing, reliability and construct validity were discussed. |
