Abstract: The thesis describes a quasi-experimental research undertaken in the second year newlinedesign studio of undergraduate course in Architecture at Faculty of Architecture and newlineEkistics, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India. The research aimed to design a newlineframework on the concept of blended learning to make learning in the design studios newlinemore effective by combining the conventional design studio, digital media, and public newlineinterest design. It further aimed to conduct design studios based on the developed newlineframework and measure its effectiveness through a mixed methods approach involving newlineboth qualitative and qualitative methods to inform multiple realities. newlineA review of theoretical literature was conducted in which existing national and newlineinternational accreditation and regulatory bodies were studied such as UNESCO- UIA newlineCharter, AIA, RIBA, NAAB, and CoA, which highlighted the need for social newlineengagement in design among other aspects, and public interest design as one of the newlinerelevant emerging practices in design. The literature review also highlighted current newlinepractices in Architecture Education and discussed its issues and criticism in the newlineacademic and research community of Architecture. A review of design studio newlinepedagogy and its criticism pointed towards the need for new forms of engagements in newlinethe design studio, and the emerging civic concerns in the design studio. A review of newlinethe conventional design studio revealed its history evolving from Ecole, Bauhaus, and newlineVkhutemas. A review of further notable design studio models included the ten newlinepioneering typologies, critical inquiry and process-oriented pedagogy, interchangeable newlinedesign pedagogies mentioned by Salama (Salama, 2016b), and digital design studios newlinementioned by Gross and Do (1999). newlineA review of available literature on public interest design (PID) indicates its roots newlinefrom the participatory design practices of the 1960s, which advocated a pro-bono newlineapproach. Whereas, it s contemporary manifestation is built on the idea of design in newlinethe public interest, of a design for the people,
