Abstract: | BACKGROUND: Gestational diabetes mellitus is increasing enormously worldwide in the recent decades especially in developing countries. The prevalence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) differs depending on the different regions and the country. Nearly half of women with a history of GDM develop type 2 diabetes within five to ten years after delivery. It is one of the causes of maternal and foetal mortality and morbidity. Lifestyle modification Interventions can easily prevent GDM. OBJECTIVES: 1. To assess GDM recurrence and pregnancy outcome before and after lifestyle modification among antenatal mothers in the experimental group. 2. To test the effectiveness of lifestyle modification on GDM recurrence among antenatal mothers between the experimental and control group. 3. To compare the pregnancy outcome among antenatal mothers between the experimental and control group in relation to lifestyle modification. newlineMETHODOLOGY: In a quantitative research approach, quasi experimental repeated measure time series design was used to assess the effectiveness of lifestyle modification intervention. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling method and the study was conducted in two private hospitals in Kanyakumari District. RESULTS: 1. The lifestyle modification was highly effective to reduce Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) levels among antenatal mothers in Experimental group. There was a significant reduction in the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test OGTT levels in present pregnancy compared to the previous pregnancy in the experimental group; F =169.3(p lt0.001). CONCLUSION: Based on the above findings of the study, recommendations were drawn for nursing practice. The study concluded saying that lifestyle modification intervention among antenatal mothers with a previous history of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) has significantly reduced the recurrence of GDM. Therefore antenatal mothers must be motivated to practice lifestyle modification intervention. newline |
