Abstract: | ABSTRACT newline newlineThe study was designed to evaluate the compliance behaviour in Type-2 Diabetic patients. The experimental design of Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) was adopted. A total of 620 Type 2 Diabetic patients was divided into experimental (310) and control group (310) by block random technique. The data were collected from Type 2 diabetic patients from Institute of Diabetology, Rajiv Gandhi Govt General Hospital, Chennai, through Modified Drug Compliance Scale, Modified lifestyle assessment Questionnaire, and Quality of Life Questionnaire (QOLID). The CNIP programme (video assisted teaching, flash cards on diet and exercise, food ingredients exposition and self-instructional leaflet) was given to the experimental group. The control group received only routine care and at the end of 6th month the cursory instructions were also given. The data were collected from both groups at 0 month, 3rd month and 6th month intervals. The collected data was interpreted in the improvement range of experimental vs. control group for the following components of drug compliance score 10.5% vs.1.04%, lifestyle modification score 23.34% vs.2.61% and QOL 23.9% vs.0.60%. It was significant at 95% confidence interval. Regarding BMI, the independent t- test value of 7.41 significant at p=0.001*** and HbA1c t-test value of 14.98 significant at p=0.001***. This study also found that there is positive correlation among drug compliance, quality of life and lifestyle modification. This study finding revealed that the CNIP programme was effective in increasing compliance behavior, thereby achieving glycemic control and improving quality of life of diabetic type 2 patients. newline |
