Abstract: | This work aims to investigate the efficiency enhancement of chlorophyll and organic dye sensitized solar cells. In this work, three chlorophyll based natural dyes of murraya koenigii, plectranthus amboinicus, and coriandrum sativum leaves and evaluated their photovoltaic performance. The dye from plectranthus amboinicus showed better conversion efficiency of 0.46% due to the higher number of chlorophyll units. Two organic triphenylamine based dyes MY-101 and MY-102 were synthesized and characterized using 1HNMR, newline13C NMR, CHN, and MALDI-TOF- HRMS analysis and their photovoltaic newlineperformance recorded. DFT-TD-DFT characteristics were also studied for both dyes. The photovoltaic properties of both the dyes MY-101 dye and MY-102 newline newline newlinewere recorded in I-/I3 newline newline newline- and Co(Phen)32+ electrolyte. newline newlineIn I3-/I- electrolyte, MY-101 dye showed and#951; of 4.85% as compared to the standard dye TA-St-CA that showed and#951; of 4.26%. In Co(Phen) 2+ electrolyte, newline newlineMY-101 dye showed and#951; of 6.5% as compared to the TA-St-CA that showed and#951; of newline newline4.68%. In I-/I3- electrolyte, MY-102 dye showed and#951; of 5.07% as compared to the newline newlineTA-St-CA that showed the and#951; of 4.26%. MY-102 dye efficiency is 16% more as newline newline newlinecompared to that of the TA-St-CA. In Co(Phen) 2+ newline newline newlineelectrolyte, MY-102 dye newline newline newlineshowed and#951; of 6.62% as compared to the TA-St-CA that showed and#951; of 4.68%. Both newline newline newlinethe dyes showed better conversion efficiencies in Co(Phen) 2+ newline newline newlineelectrolyte as newline newline newlinecompared to the I-/I3- electrolyte. MY -102 showed better conversion efficiency due to extended phenylene and#960; spacer as compared to that of MY-101 dye. Due the high VOC, MY-102 showed 27% more efficiency improvement as compared to that of the I-/I3- electrolyte. Although, the conversion efficiencies attained with natural dyes were less compared to the triphenylamine dyes, the studies prove their potential for dye sensitized solar cell applications. newline |
