Abstract: newlineA total of 72940 bibliographic data on scientific research papers published by researchers newlineof the six Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT newlineBombay, IIT Kanpur and IIT Roorkee) were retrieved from Scopus database during the newlineperiod 2006-2015. The analysis of these papers brings light on various important factors newlinethat might leads to develop the various scientific and technological activities of all six newlineIITs. The analysis indicates that the research output of six IITs has grown continuously newlineduring the period of study. The researchers of six IITs prefer to publish their papers in the newlineshape of articles as 70.7% papers were published from the total output. Among the most newlineproductive authors of six IITs, highest numbers of 10 authors were from IITB followed by newlineIITKGP with 5 authors, 5 authors from IITM, 5 authors from IITK, 4 authors from IITD newlineand 2 authors from IITR. On the basis of Total Number of Publications (TNP), Total newlineNumber of Citations (TNC), Citation Per Paper (CPP), Relative Citation Impact, HIndex, newlineInternational Collaborative Papers (ICP) and National Collaborative Papers, it is newlineelicited from the analysis that the Relative Citation Impact of IIT Roorkee and IIT newlineBombay are more than other IITs and the research works by authors from IIT Bombay are newlinecited more than other IITs. Physics of Plasmas, Journal of Applied Polymer Science, newlineJournal of Applied Physics, RSC Advances are the journals most used by the researchers newlineof all six IITs. As these institutes are mostly concentrating on engineering and technology newlineeducation, the highest numbers of papers were published in all branches of Engineering newlinefollowed by Physics and Chemistry. The Activity Index shows that except life sciences, newlinesocial sciences and humanities, there was an increase in the publications from the first newlineblock to the second block in all other subjects, though an exceptional increase was newlinewitnessed in the subject Physics. The Attractivity Index shows that except Engineering newlineand Humanities, all other subjects attract more citations. The authorship pattern also newlinedepicts that all six IITs are more prone to team research as more than 80% of papers were newlinemulti-authored papers as the average Collaboration Coefficient is 0.96. Algorithms, newlineComputer Simulation, Optimization, X Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, newlineMathematical Models, Finite Element Method, Synthesis (chemical), are the common newlinemicro research areas in which all the six IITs have undertaken research and published newlinemore numbers of papers. More than three fourth of the papers by researchers of the all six newlineIITs were published in journals originating from the advanced countries namely the USA, newlineix newlinethe UK, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland which indicates that the research results newlinepublished by them are well connected to the mainstream science. The analysis also portray newlinethat the funding for undertaking research and publishing papers of all the six IITs have newlinegrown continuously during the period of study. Among the top national funding agencies, newlineDepartment of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology (3818 newlinepapers) and CSIR (3642 papers) provide more funding to all these six IITs to conduct newlineresearch on nascent areas and publish papers. Among the top International funding newlineagencies, Illinois institute of Technology, USA (618 papers) provides highest number of newlinefunding followed by National Science Foundation (296 papers), Schizophrenia Research newlineFund (SRF) (238 papers). The comparison of output of IITKGP with Indian Institute of newlineScience, Massachusetts Institutes of Technology and Nanyang Technological University newlinedepicts that two Indian institutes namely IITKGP and IISc preferred to publish more newlinepapers in the shape of journal articles whereas the scientists of MIT and NTU are inclined newlineto publish more in the shape of conference papers. The study also shows that there exist newlinedifferences among four institutes in disseminating their research results in journals. But newlinethere are journals, namely, Physical Review B Condensed Matter and Materials Physics, newlinePlos One, Applied Physics Letters, are the common journals in which scientists of IISC, newlineMIT and NTU published their papers except IITKGP. The findings of the study may be newlineutilitarian to the administrator and academician of the respective institutes to formulate newlineproper policies and strategies to enrich research activities to attain the goal of the
