Abstract: ABSTRACT newline A quantitative quasi experimental pre-test and post-test design was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of OSCE upon selected clinical components in child health nursing and to assess the perception of nursing students on OSCE was done. The Simple random sampling technique was used, Out of these 392 students, 196 were included under the study group and the remaining 196 was included under the control group. The pre-test and post-test skill score among the study group of nursing students revealed that, the pretest skill score was 41.75 and the posttest was 89.99. The difference was 48.24. This difference was large and statistically significant. Hence the hypothesis H1 was accepted which indicates that OSCE was very effective in improving the skill. newlineRegarding the level of nursing students perception on OSCE, it is evident that in the study group, 182(92.8%) of the samples perception were highly satisfactory and 14(7.1%) were satisfactory and in the control group also the level of perception showed 178 (90.8%) were highly satisfactory and 18(9.1%) was satisfactory. There was a positive correlation between the performance of nursing students in the study group on OSCE and the perception level of students on OSCE with the r value of 0.52 significant at p lt0.001 level. This means that as the performance level of students increases, there was an increase in the perception level also. It was evident that there was a significant association between the effectiveness of OSCE with the age, sex, year of study, course of study and the place of living. Similarly, significant association was found between the levels of perception of nursing students in the study group with the selected demographic variables namely age, sex, and year of study, course of study and the place of living. newline newline
