Abstract: | ABSTRACT newline newlineA study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral nursing intervention on self efficacy, compliance and glycemic control among patients with type II diabetes mellitus . A quantitative research approach with true experimental research design was used to assess the effectiveness of the cognitive behavioural nursing intervention. The study population consisted of patients with type-II diabetes mellitus. The sample size consisted of 208 patients with105 in experimental group and103 in control group. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the villages and patients were selected based on the inclusion criteria. The data collection tool consisted of self efficacy ratingscale, compliance scale, fasting blood sugar, post prandial and HbA1c of patients with diabetes mellitusmeasured at 0, 3rd and 6th months of intervention. Results of the study indicated that there were a significant difference in self efficacy, compliance and glycemic control among patients in the experimental group during the post tests compared with the pre test (plt0.05). Comparison of self efficacy, compliance and glycemic control between experimental and control group showed a significant difference between the groups (plt0.05). The results indicated a significant moderate positive correlation between self efficacy and compliance during post test II. There was a negative weak correlation between self efficacy and fasting blood sugar, compliance and post prandial blood sugar during post test I. The results highlighted that the cognitive behavioural nursing intervention is an effective method to improve the self efficacy, compliance and glycemic control among patients with diabetes mellitus living in the villages. newline newline |
