Abstract: | Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of civil infrastructures has achieved newlineconsiderable importance in recent years, since any failure of these structures can newlinecause immense loss of life and property. Structural Health Monitoring which newlinecan be classified as long term monitoring and short term monitoring is becoming newlinerecognized in the domain of civil engineering as a proper means to increase the newlinesafety and optimize operational and maintenance costs of the structures. newlineThis thesis presents the construction stage real-time structural health monitoring newlineof steel concrete composite plate girders of a signature tower located at Chennai. newlineThe observation deck was under construction above 100 m from the ground newlinelevel on concrete core and lift wall like the trunk of a tree. At the top of the stem, newlinelarge cantilever steel composite floor decks symmetrical in one axis are located newlineat 94 m, 98 m, 102 m, 107 m and 109 m levels forming a bowl shape, by newlineincremental cantilever floor area in each upper levels. There are 14 plate girders newlinepresent in each floor at 94 m, 98 m, 102 m and 107 m levels and only 8 girders newlineare present in 109 m level. These plate girders are supported on one side by a newlinecore wall and, on the other side, by inclined columns except the floor deck at newline94 m level which is supported only on one side by 2600 mm thick reinforced newlineconcrete transfer slab. This study is focused on the behaviour of plate girders at newline94 m, 98 m, 102 m, 107 m and 109 m levels. |
