Abstract: There is a great demand for universal antennas operating in multi-band with the increase in wireless gadgets. New generation communication systems especially in mobile, satellite and missile applications require wide band or multi-band along with compact, low profile antennas that can be easily-integrated newlinewith printed circuits. Out of the various antenna configurations available, newlineprinted dipole antennas can serve the above mentioned purposes. Printed newlinedipole antennas have an omni-directional pattern enabling reception of sig- newlinenal in all directions but are characterized with narrow bandwidth and low newlinegain. When designed as dipole array, gain of the antenna system is improved newlinewhile not contributing to size reduction. To miniaturize the array, fractal ge- newlineometries and resonators are incorporated in the dipole array. In this thesis, newlinethe bandwidth of these class of antennas is enhanced using metamaterial in- newlinespired resonators like Split Ring Resonator (SRR) and Open Loop Resonator newline(OLR) achieving multi-band operation. The proposed antenna system acts as newlinea self-complementary array of dipole antennas. The design of these antennas newline- selection of dipole arm length, spacing, OLR etc is also discussed in the newlinethesis. The proposed configuration provides considerable area reduction and newlinehas appreciable gain in the band of operations. newline newline
