Abstract: | LGBTs have been subjected to centuries of marginalization, ostracization, discrimination, atrocities and hate crimes. The first chapter, Introduction, introduces the topic of the research and statement of problem, aim and objective, significance of study, hypothesis, research questions, scope and limitations, research methodology, research gap and scheme of chapters to be followed. The second chapter, LGBT: General Concepts and Issues, deals with such terms and concepts which are sine qua non for addressing the very issue of LGBT. It address the various related concepts and terms and distinction between them such as gay, lesbian, gender identity and sexual orientation etc. The third chapter, Law and Morality: Changing Notions, is a religion-wise study of history to find out whether the LGBT community was more openly accepted and better accommodated by our ancestors than us. It also gives an overview of views of different scholars and thinkers on the complex debate of law, homosexuality and morality. The fourth chapter, LGBT Issues: Global Context, attempts to study the international spectrum of the issue in hand to compare India in post NALSA and Johar era with the world at large. The fifth chapter of the thesis, LGBTs in India: Historical, Cultural and Socio-Legal Analysis, concentrates more on the philosophical part of the evolution of LGBT rights not just in India but throughout the world. Concluding reflections in the last chapter, Conclusion and Suggestions, dilate on the loopholes and lacunae in the existing laws in India. It concludes the entire research work and suggests as to what could be done for the sake of the LGBT community. newline |
