The medicinal plants E. alsinoides and I. obscura were subjected to qualitative and newlinequantitative phytochemical analysis, macro and micro elemental analysis, antimicrobial newlineanalysis and pharmacological studies. Preliminary studies started with the extraction of newlineplant powder in petroleum ether, hexane, chloroform, acetone, methanol and water newlineextracts. Preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, newlinecarbohydrates, glycosides, steroids, tannins, flavonoids, terpenoids and phenolic newlinecompounds in the extracts of E. alsinoides and I. obscura plants. Macro and micro newlineelemental analysis shows the presence of high concentrations of potassium followed by newlinephosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sodium, nickel, manganese, copper and zinc are newlinepresent in the methanolic extract of selected study plants. The isolated compounds in both newlineplants such as Lupeol, Betulin, Taraxerol, 2-hydroxy-4-mehoxychalcone and Myricertin newlinewere characterized on the basis of their FT -IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and Mass spectral newlinedata. The in vivo antiasthma activity of methanolic extract of E. alsinoides whole plant newlinepossess significant antiasthma property. The in vitro and in vivo anticancer activity of newlinemethanolic extract of I. obscura whole plant possess significant anticancer property.
