Abstract: | Emphasizing the mental preparation of athletes the present study was designed to find out the differences between the adolescent players and non-players in relation to Psychological Capital, Personality, self-esteem and Emotional intelligence. The sample comprised of 400 adolescents 200 players (100 boys 100 Girls) and 200 Non- players (100 boys 100 Girls). Adolescents studying in class X1 and X11 of government senior secondary schools of the Chandigarh, within in age group of 16 -18 years were taken as sample. To newline fulfill the objectives of the study raw scores were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Inferential Analysis, Differential Analysis, and Correlation Analysis. At a glance, the comparison between adolescent players and non-players display a significant difference where adolescent players emerged to be better on psychological capital and its dimension, emotional intelligence and its dimensions, Self-esteem, openness, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness whereas adolescent non-players were found to be higher on Neuroticism. Adolescent girls higher on hope, optimism, resilience, openness, extraversion, emotional intelligence, whereas adolescent boys higher on Agreeableness, Positivity, and Humility. However, no significant differences emerged on psychological capital, self-efficacy wellbeing, self-control, conscientiousness, neuroticism, openness, competence, self-worth, learning orientation, and self-esteem. Inter-correlation between psychological capital and rest of the variables indicated significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence, self-esteem, openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and extraversion. Significant negative correlation was found between psychological capital scores and neuroticism scores. The findings of the study revealed that psychological capital emerged as a mediating effect among personality, self-esteem and emotional intelligence. newline |
