Development Induced Displacement and Women A Sociological Study in Koderma District Jharkhand

Abstract

In order to fulfil the task of improving the condition of the impoverished masses in newlinethe country , the planners and policy makers took the path of rapid economic newlinedevelopment which was measured in terms of gross national income focussing upon newlinethe big push model encouraging industrialization, dam and other large scale newlinedevelopment projects. Though some progress could be made in the agricultural, newlineeconomic and industrial front but on the other side it pushed indigenous people and newlineweaker sections of the society into poverty and backwardness (Parida 2006). newlineTherefore development should rather be dealing with the use of the productive newlineresources for catering to the needs of the needful. Women are the worst victims of newlinedevelopment-induced displacement. The problems of displacement are enormous for newlinethem. The present study makes an attempt to analyze the impact of development newlineinduced displacement upon women through various dimensions. newline
