Title: Land use Land change pattern and their impact on the prevalence of mosquitoes and mosquito borne diseases in Coimbatore Tamil Nadu India

Abstract: Mosquitoes are considered public number one enemy because they cause various problems to newlinehuman society by their biting and blood-feeding habits. Apart from their pestiferous nature, they act as newlinevectors of filariasis, malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis. Due to rapid newlineindustrialization, large numbers of labourers migrate from rural to urban areas searching for job newlineopportunities. In the last decade, Coimbatore city experienced rapid human population growth. This newlineunprecedented increase in the human population in Coimbatore city induced dramatic changes in land newlineuse/land cover and human settlement patterns. The main objective of this research work is to explore newlineand understand mosquito vectors prevailing within Coimbatore city, evaluate breeding sites and newlinefactors influencing vector breeding within the city, and come up with management recommendations newlinefor prevention and control of vector-borne diseases through awareness. The study period was newlineundertaken from January 2018 to June 2019 in eight selected areas of Coimbatore city. A total of newline26,871 numbers of mosquitoes comprising of 4 genera and 18 species were collected and identified. newlineAmong the 18 species, C. quinquefasciatus was the predominant species in all the eight selected areas, newlinefollowed by A. aegypti and Ar. subalbatus. Correlation and regression analysis showed a positive newlinerelationship between mosquito population and the meteorological parameters. Based on the results of newlinethe Shannon Weiner index and Simpson s dominance index showed that C. quinquefasciatus was the newlinemost predominant species in almost all the areas, followed by A. aegypti and Ar. subalbatus. Time newlineseries analysis was performed by the ARIMA model and compared with an Expert modeler to predict newlinethe monthly forecasting of disease incidences. The study also found a significant change in land use newlineland change in Coimbatore city between 2000, 2010 and 2019. Our analysis predicted the highest newlineabundance of mosquitoes in places with built-up areas and agricultural lands.
