Abstract: | newline Tourism is a key constituent of the world economy and the share of contribution of tourism to the global economy has witnessed a noticeable change over the last two decades. Tourism is considered to be the world s biggest service industry (Robson and Robson, 1996) and this sunrise industry generates revenue, newlineemployment and multiplier effects (Crompton et al. 2001). As per the report of World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) on the Economic Impact of Tourism , the total contribution of tourism to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at newlinethe global level was 10.4 per cent i.e. US$8.8 trillion in 2018 and the share of newlinetotal employment was 10 per cent i.e. 319 million jobs in the same year. This newlinetrend of GDP and employment is projected to rise by 11.4 per cent and 11.1 per cent respectively in 2030. With the increase in tourist arrivals and revenue receipts, the global tourism industry is expected to generate 100 million jobs by 2027, provided tourism will not be affected by any geo-spatial factors. Nevertheless, this projection does not appear to be achievable on account of Covid-19 pandemic. As such, tourism is the world s fastest growing sector, next to the manufacturing sector. Nonetheless, Travel and Tourism sector contributes 6.7 per cent to GDP i.e. US$ 266 billion in India (WTTC, 2018). |
