Abstract: Tamil palm script recognition and classification of characters is considered as one of the important contexts in terms of the identification of manuscripts. Tamil is the most established inscription characters in India, and the palm leaf manuscripts include consonants and vowels. A palm leaf is more likely to deteriorate naturally and the palm leaf is a material used for writing many literary works such as medicine, poem, mantras and its visual representation could be viewed in many monuments and sculptures. When untying the riches of knowledge of our ancestors it is extremely significant to treasure these palm leaves manuscripts. This is of critical importance to classify and detect them with current vernacular system. The research attempts to advance the system which enables identification and classification of Tamil typeset from palm leaf and words through captured images and store them for further use. Various training mechanisms have been carried out with different methodologies, but differentiating Tamil characters remains as a challengeable mission. Compared to any other languages, Tamil language is regarded too complex on account of its curved, shapes, pits and it will differ according to the writing style of individuals. More research considered necessary adapting age old Tamil characters to contemporary Tamil characters to expand the objective of establishing computerized system for delivering enhanced understanding of human knowledge. This research is applicable for classifying Tamil characters and stores it in a well-organized system folder for processing of the image in the future. newline newline newline newlineIn general, different letters and characters define the accuracy level of the character identification techniques; consequently, proper methodologies and segmentation process is considered necessary. There are various organizations making a serious efforts in order to take care of the safety of age old palm leaf manuscripts in India in general and Tamil Nadu in particular, intensely as a result of the demand to treasur
