Abstract: | Progress in the field of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) has laid to the understanding newlineof the fundamental charge transport mechanism of conjugated polymers and small-molecules. newlineThe charge transport property holds an integral role in achieving increased mobility and newlinestability of the devices. Organic small molecules are advantageous with respect to their ease newlineof synthesis, flexibility, low processing, light weight, cost and compatibility with different newlinesubstrates. Extensive researches have been performed utilising p-type small molecules to newlineachieve high charge carrier mobility upto 20 cm2V-1s-1. In comparison to p-type molecules, newlinethe device mobilities of n-type molecules lag behind. The low lying LUMO levels of these newlinemolecules make them susceptible to easy oxidation at ambient atmosphere; affecting the newlinecharge carrier mobility and stability. However, interests are being invested to develop newlinestrategies to achieve air stable n-type organic semiconductors. Structural engineering is one newlineof the most important methods to fine tune the energy levels and the band gap of the newlinemolecules. In addition to that, the fabrication procedure and temperature decide the newlineperformance and the stability of the devices. Solution processing techniques such as drop newlinecasting, spin coating and inkjet printing are being preferred over conventional deposition newlinetechniques as it produces easy and economical way to produce films under ambient newlineconditions with minimal loss. |
