Abstract: | Sugars are the sole carbon source of plants for various cellular processes and production of various metabolites. Plants synthesize carbohydrates (sugars) in the photosynthetically active source leaves and are transported mainly in the form of sucrose through phloem vessels and are finally unloaded into the sink organs. However, this transport mechanism varies among plant species and its organ types. Interestingly, sugars from the sink tissues such as roots exude into the rhizosphere soil, where the belowground plant-microbe interactions occur newline |
