Abstract: | newline Major vector borne diseases (VBDs) like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis (JE) and lymphatic filariasis (LF) are transmitted by different vector mosquito species. These VBDs are the major public health concern globally including India. Dengue is one of the fast spreading vector borne diseases with highest level of global concern. The rapid spread of Aedes albopictus which is also established vector of dengue besides Aedes aegypti across rural and urban areas has necessitated to generate crucial information in different areas especially on vector bionomics and vector s response to insecticides. The data on vector mosquitoes from Thiruvarur District in Tamil Nadu state, India remains largely either unknown or undocumented. The work for present thesis is therefore undertaken to find out the seasonal fluctuation in Aedes albopictus in Thiruvarur district, status of insecticide resistance in this dengue vector and its mechanism. Hence, the present thesis is divided in three different parts i.e. Part I: To know the seasonal fluctuation in dengue vectors in Thiruvarur districts, Part II: insecticide resistance status in Aedes albopictus against three different class of insecticides such as DDT 4% (organochlorine), malathion 5% (organophosphate) and deltamethrin 0.05% (synthetic pyrethroid) and Part III: biochemical mechanism in resistant mosquitoes of Aedes albopictus. |
