Abstract: This research is a study of the disconnected condition of a woman within her family and the struggle between her individual self and familial engagements. The thesis argues that a woman s disconnectedness in a family is due to lack of intimacy and misunderstanding between the family members, and her inattentiveness to her own self which creates a sense of homelessness within her. To substantiate this, the sufferings, both physical and mental, of women in their different roles as a daughter, wife and mother are analyzed and are traced to the above causes. The burden on women is lessened and they are encouraged to find a way out in the solidarity of sisterhood that supports the women to rejuvenate themselves newline
