Evaluation of Stress and depression in adolescents and their underlying genetic basis

Abstract

Stress and depression are result of human minds incapability of coping up with any unusual newlinecircumstances. All organisms reciprocate to changing environment or stressors and the newlineoutcome depends on the intensity of the stress, giving rise to two variants, eustress and newlinedistress. Eustress is a stress up to a limit that gives an impetus to perform better, but newlinecontinuous stress may result in distress which leads to complications and ultimately sadness. newlineOn the other hand low mood, loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities and sadness newlinepersisting for longer period affecting daily life is considered as depression. Approximately newline322 million people of different age group in the world are suffering with depression and newlinenearly half of them are residents of south-east Asia and west pacific region. India, with a newlinepopulation of more than a billion people and vast diversity among different communities and newlineclimatic conditions, the prevalence of depression reaches a maximum of 39.6% according to newlineWHO report 2017, which is an alarming situation. newline
