Abstract: newline All human activities on earth are interconnected and our environment is a newlineperfect example of it. It is a complex web of relationships and interrelationships newlinewhere mutual interdependence of all living forms is essential for their subsistence. newlineThis is also a fact, that out of all life forms that constitute the environment, humans newlinepossess unlimited ability to wreak havoc on it, and the advancement of science and newlinetechnology, newlinepopulation newlineexplosion, newlineindustrialization, newlineurbanization, newlinepoverty, newlineoverexploitation of resources are abusing our planet and causing irreversible harm to newlineits biodiversity. newlineBiodiversity is not something which has come up of its importance just around newlinethis time, it has been around for a long period of time and this thesis will cover all newlineparts of the historical perspective of biodiversity. Internationally as well, biodiversity newlinehas been of varied importance since the 70 s only. Various nations of the world did newlinerecognize the importance of biodiversity and started chipping their way in so that newlinebiodiversity may be conserved, protected, and utilized intelligibly throughout the newlinetime. The first such occurrence which we see internationally is the Stockholm newlineConference of 1972. This conference has been dealt with in detail throughout the newlinethesis, as this was essentially the first step towards the conservation and protection of newlineenvironment on a global scale. This conference was attended by 114 countries, and it newlineprovided a global platform for all the countries to deliberate and discuss all the newlineenvironment related problems internationally. Our then Prime Minister Smt. Indira newlineGandhi attended the conference. The next such important convention was the newlineConvention on International Trade in Endangered Species, 1973. This was held in newlineWashington, and hence came to be known as the Washington Convention. This newlineConvention was initiated so that the countries all around the world could carefully newlineexchange all the rare species of Flora and Fauna so that the endangered species may be newlinemonitored and therefore protected.
