Abstract: This thesis is concerned with providing a solution in the form of architecture to reduce the number of accidents occurring on the Indian Highways. As Indian doesn t have any such existing infrastructure set up to provide safety to the road transport by the long route vehicles on the Indian Highways, there is a need to work on that sector so that a probable solution can be obtained to tackle such a huge issue of concern. The primary objective of this thesis is also to identify the responsible factors for occurrence of accidental cases on Indian Highways. Driver behavior is the major factor as per the literature survey in thesis. The research work has come up with a WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) based solution to provide an architecture, whose implementation in future can bring up a new change in terms of safety on Indian Highways. Not only this, the research work is also highlighting the areas of driver s training. To address the issue of accidental cases, thesis presents a hardware prototype implementation that help in monitoring various parameters that can affect the driving of the vehicle by the long route vehicles driver. The dashboard of the vehicles that will be running on the highways needs to be compulsorily equipped with smart dashboard. Sensor based communication will be performed by IEEE standard 802.15.4[Zigbee]. Testing performed in hardware prototype on few sensors, in future as per requirement and demand of the implementation in physical environment new sensors can be incorporated to reduce fatalities on Indian Highways. newlineThe research concludes with simulation of the suggested architecture on the NS2 simulator tool and the prototype development of the proposed architecture. As the architecture can t be tested in real environment simulation is provided. The output investigated by performing the simulation on NS2 is providing promising results that can help various stakeholders in forming effective policy for implementing the safety and security on Indian Highways. newline
