Effect of nutritional status on cognitive development of slum children of Varanasi along with parents counselling An interventional study

Abstract

Nutritional status is the condition of the body influenced by the diet taken and is determined by anthropometric measurements. Good nutrition has been said to have favorable effects on educational attainment. Various studies proved that well nourished child will learn more readily than poorly nourished ones. Prevalence of undernutrition in slum children was more in various studies and various studies had shown it. Various socio-culture and ecological factors are responsible for undernutrition in slum children. Inadequate dietary intake, anorexia, increased losses from intestine, malabsorption, micronutrient deficiency disease, early cessation of breast feeding, maternal malnutrition, poverty, poor living and sanity condition are the various important factors causing undernutrition in slum children. newline
