Enhancing water use efficiency of rice varieties through use of enriched Municipal Solid Waste compost in Varanasi region of eastern UP

Abstract

Globally rice is grown in about 150 million ha from which 497 million tonnes newlineof rice produced annually. India has the worldand#8223;s largest area under rice with 43.1 newlinemillion ha and is the second largest producer of paddy (104.32 million tonnes), newline(Anonymous 2018) next to China. Within the country, rice occupies one-fourth of the newlinetotal cropped area, contributes about 40 to 43 percent of total food grain production newlineand play a vital role in the national food and livelihood security system. In UP, rice is newlinecultivated in an area of about 5.86 million hectares with a total production of 12.50 newlinemillion tonnes of rice (Anonymous, 2018). newline
