Abstract: Chemotherapeutic agents have numerous side effects and many newlinemedicines are known to adversely affect human health. So, there is a demand newlinefor better anticancer drugs without having any adverse effects on human newlinehealth as many plant materials are biocompatible and can be expected to newlinework without harmful effects. They can be used as neoadjuvant or as an newlineadjuvant. The present study is focusing on the anticancer effect of ethanolic newlineextract of Enicostemma axillare on breast cancer. Various research studies newlinereport the anticancer potency of Enicostemma axillare but there is a lack of newlinethe plant extract s molecular mechanism of action related to its anticancer newlineefficacy on breast cancer. The present study targeted the anticancer potency newlineof Enicostemma axillare s ethanolic extract by comparing its action to newlineDoxorubicin, an anticancer drug, at the molecular level. Based on the results obtained in the present study, it may be newlineconcluded that E. axillare extract can be considered a potential anticancer newlinedrug as it influenced apoptosis by increasing the level of Caspase-3 and newlinePI3K/Akt apoptotic signalling molecules in the treated groups with low dose. It newlinealso suppressed MMP-9 and Bcl2 protein expressions that support anticancer newlineactivity. The acute oral toxicity study confirmed that E. axillare derived newlinemedicines are safe to use for therapeutic purposes as no adverse effects of newlinethe extract were recorded in the healthy rats in the study. newline
