Abstract: | There are very few studies in India in the branch of pharmacy practice compared to its other arms like formulations development, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical analysis or Pharmacognosy. There is widespread interest in pharmacotherapy from the medicine and other allied health specialists. newline No studies are available in India, on diabetic distress, in-spite of being a national threat and being the second largest diabetic subcontinent. This was a sensitive initiation in that direction. Diabetic distress is one of the most important but the most neglected criteria that may complicate diabetes, its comorbidities and its management. newline Clinical pharmacy services are even today are alien in most health care facilities that are not certified by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare providers (NABH) and those that are certified are present in the urban territories only, whereas the prevalence of diabetes is all across the length and breadth of the country. The available additional pharmacist resources can be utilized in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), to create a nationwide impact in India. newline This study has linked the clinical outcomes with pharmaceutical care interventions that also lead to decrease in diabetic distress. With pharmaceutical care interventions, the impact on clinical outcomes is available across the globe, but this study has added another dimension of diabetic distress too, so the vicious cycle complicating diabetes management is completely taken into consideration to study the impact if any by the pharmaceutical care intervention. newline Though the importance of non pharmacological interventions are proved across continents, in India it s in nascent stage and this study is one that can add value and support to initiate such debates on the requirement of implementing practices that advocate and monitors customized treatment plans for the patients leading to a mass change in the health scenario of the country especially in chronic diseases, like diabetes mellitus. newline newline |
