dc.description.abstract | Now a days PCOS cases are many due to the life style modification newlinemainly food, sedentary life style and stress. A natural source material is needed newlinefor the cure of PCOS. Many women in reproductive age group come with newlineinfertility either primary or secondary due to PCOS .Major problem in the newlinesociety is hirsuitism in females due to this metabolic disorder. Anovulatory newlinecycles are more and the flow ranges from oligomenorrhea to menorrhagia newlinecausing discomfort. Many standard PCOS drugs reveal complications inducing newlinecancerous tumor in the fetus during later life. To ease the condition, Sepia newlinepharaonis ink which is a biological waste can be considered .Due to the newlineanti-oxidant properties and anti-tumour effect, Sepia pharaonis ink extract was newlineconsidered for the treatment of PCOS induced rats.Acute toxicological study of Sepia pharaonis ink extract revealed that 2 newlinegm/kg was safe and did not produce any toxicological changes in female newlineWistar albino rats. Sub-acute toxicity study using 100 mg/Kg and 200 mg/Kg newlinewas safe for further experimental trials. So the main study was to evaluate the newlineeffect of Sepia pharaonis ink extract in letrozole induced PCOS rat model. newlinePCOS model showed altered biochemical, hormonal, anti-oxidant levels, body newlineweight ratio, organ to body weight ratio and Immunohistochemical findings newlinewhereas SPIE+100 mg/kg, SPIE+200 mg/kg groups were successful in newlinebringing the altered parameters to normal level similar to control group and newlinestandard drug SPIE+CC. Sepia pharaonis ink extract was tested in the male newlinerabbits to know the allergic reaction. But the rabbits showed no such alteration newlineeither in the form of erythema or oedema. Skin irritation test confirms the newlinesafety use of the SPIE and ruled out shellfish allergic reaction. Therefore Sepia newlinepharaonis ink extract proved to be safe and effective in treatment against newlineletrozole induced PCOS rat model by alleviating the effects of PCOS and newlinebringing the parameters to normal levels. newline | |
